Ayahuasca Costa Rica is a small retreat center in the mountains near San Isidro de El General, Pérez Zeledón, Costa Rica. This policy explains what information we collect when you use ayahuascacostarica.org or write to us, what we do with it, where it is kept, and how you can ask us to correct or delete it. We have written it in plain language on purpose.
What we collect
Information you send us
When you use the contact form, we receive what you type into it:
- Your name and email address.
- Your phone number, if you choose to give it.
- The type of inquiry, the retreat and date you are interested in, and the subject.
- How you heard about us, if you choose to tell us.
- Your message, including anything you decide to share about your health or your reasons for coming.
If you go on to apply for a retreat, we ask for a health history by email or WhatsApp, including medical conditions, medications, mental health history, and emergency contact details. We ask for this because it is the only way to know whether a ceremony is safe for you. See our safety page for what we screen for and why.
Information collected automatically
- Google Analytics 4 records which pages are visited, roughly where visitors come from, what device and browser they use, and whether a contact form was sent. It uses cookies to tell one visit from another. Google may process this data on servers in the United States. It does not tell us who you are.
- Vercel Analytics counts page views and web performance without cookies and without identifying visitors.
- Server logs at our hosting provider record IP addresses and requests for security and to keep the site running. They are kept for a short time and not used to identify visitors.
We do not run advertising trackers, social media pixels, or embedded third-party widgets on this site.
Why we use it
- To answer your message and, if you want, to hold a place for you on a retreat.
- To decide, with you, whether a ceremony is safe for you, and to prepare for your stay.
- To reach you or your emergency contact during a retreat if we need to.
- To understand how people find and use the site so we can improve it.
We do not sell your information, share it with advertisers, or add you to a mailing list you did not ask for. We only write to you about your own inquiry or booking.
Health information
Health information is the most sensitive thing you share with us, and we treat it that way. It is read only by the people who screen applications and lead ceremonies, it is used only to decide whether you can safely participate and to care for you while you are here, and it is never shared with anyone outside the center except in a medical emergency, when we may give it to the treating medical staff.
Where it is stored and who processes it
We are a small team and rely on a few well-known services to run the website and our email. Each one processes data only on our behalf:
- Sanity stores the content of this website and the messages sent through the contact form.
- Resend delivers the email notification we receive when you send the form, and our replies.
- Vercel hosts the website and provides the cookieless analytics described above.
- Google provides Google Analytics 4 and our email mailboxes.
- WhatsApp (Meta) carries messages if you choose to write to us there.
These providers store data mainly in the United States and the European Union. If you are outside those regions, your data is transferred there when you use the site or write to us.
If you book through a third-party marketplace such as Retreat Guru, the information you give them is governed by their own privacy policy. We receive from them only what we need to confirm your booking.
How long we keep it
We keep messages and applications for as long as we need them to answer you, prepare your retreat, and keep a record of who has stayed with us, and we delete them when you ask. Health information is not kept longer than the booking it relates to needs it, unless you ask us to keep it for a future visit.
Cookies
The only cookies on this site are the ones set by Google Analytics 4. They exist to count visits and do not store anything you typed. You can block them with your browser settings or with Google's opt-out add-on, and the site will work exactly the same.
Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete your information, including your health history.
- Stop contacting you.
Write to contact@ayahuascacostarica.org from the email address you used with us, and we will act on it within 30 days. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, these correspond to your rights under the GDPR, and you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. If you are in California, this is how you exercise your rights to know and to delete under the CCPA.
Age
Our retreats are for adults aged 21 and over, and this website is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has sent us information, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and the date at the top. We will not change the fundamental promise here: we collect only what we need to answer you and keep you safe, and we do not sell it or use it for advertising.
