What the price covers

When people compare retreats they usually compare the headline number, and that is where most of the confusion comes from. Some centers quote a ceremony price and add accommodation and meals later. Ours does not. The retreat price includes:

  • Your room for every night of the retreat, in a simple, clean cabin in the mountains.
  • All meals, prepared on site and aligned with the ayahuasca diet.
  • Every ceremony, led by Erick Saldaña and his family, with a facilitator present the whole night.
  • Integration sessions during the retreat, so the experience is processed before you leave, not after.
  • Preparation guidance in the weeks before you arrive.
  • Pickup from San Isidro del General, the closest town.

What it does not cover: your flight, the trip from San José airport to San Isidro del General unless you book a private transfer with us, travel insurance, and any extra nights in Costa Rica.

How this compares with other retreats in Costa Rica

Costa Rica has become one of the main destinations for ayahuasca outside of South America, and prices reflect very different kinds of centers. At the top end, large centers with medical staff, spa facilities and groups of twenty or more charge several thousand dollars for a week. In the middle, many small retreats charge between $1,200 and $2,500 for three to five days. At the low end, short ceremonies near the capital can be found for a few hundred dollars, sometimes with little screening or support.

We sit in the middle in price and at the small end in size. A maximum of five guests means the cost goes into the ceremony, the food and the attention each person receives, not into buildings or marketing. It also means you are never one of thirty people in a room.

What a fair price should include

Whatever retreat you choose, in Costa Rica or elsewhere, the price should buy you these things. If it does not, ask why.

  1. A real health screening before they take your money. Ayahuasca interacts with common medications and is unsafe with certain conditions. A retreat that books you without asking is not looking after you. Ours is described on the safety and health screening page.
  2. A sober facilitator present for the whole ceremony. Not in another building. Not asleep.
  3. Small groups. The more people in the room, the less anyone can watch over you.
  4. Integration, not just ceremony. The days after matter as much as the night itself.
  5. Clear, written terms. What is included, what the deposit is, and what happens if you cannot come.

Is it worth it?

That is a personal question, and we would rather you answer it after reading the reviews of people who came than take our word for it. What we can say is what you pay for: a family that has held ceremonies for more than ten years, medicine grown and prepared on our own land, a group small enough that every person is seen, and a place in the mountains where the only thing on the schedule is you.

Common questions

How much does an ayahuasca retreat in Costa Rica cost?
At Ayahuasca Costa Rica, a one-night ceremony costs $750, a 4-day retreat with two ceremonies costs $2,800, and a 6-day retreat with three ceremonies costs $3,600. All retreat prices are all-inclusive: accommodation, meals, ceremonies, integration sessions and pickup from San Isidro del General. Across Costa Rica, retreats range from about $700 for a short ceremony to more than $5,000 for luxury centers.
What is included in the price?
Accommodation for every night of the retreat, all meals prepared on site following the ayahuasca diet, every ceremony, integration sessions with the facilitators, preparation materials before you arrive, and complimentary pickup from San Isidro del General. Nothing is added on arrival.
What is not included?
Flights to Costa Rica, transport from San José airport to San Isidro del General unless you book a private transfer, travel insurance, and any nights you spend in Costa Rica before or after the retreat.
Is a deposit required?
Yes. After your health screening is approved, a deposit secures your place and the balance is paid before arrival. The exact amounts and payment options are confirmed with you directly during booking.
Why are some Costa Rica retreats so much more expensive?
Larger centers charge for the size of the property, the number of staff, spa services and marketing. A family-run retreat with a maximum of five guests spends on the ceremony, the food and the attention each person receives, not on infrastructure. Neither is wrong; they are different experiences at different prices.
